The ATLP 2022
Interchange Tour
How far can one boxcar go? With your help, ATLP 2022 is destined to go worldwide, with stops throughout North America, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. One boxcar connecting layout owners and model railroad clubs around the globe.
ATLP 2022 is currently making its way along the tour, with stops being added weekly. Layout owners and clubs receive the car from the previous stop, either though the mail or from an area consignee, and put it to work hauling a commodity of their choice. At the end, they fill out the accompanying log, take a commemorative sticker (of course!), and send it on to the next stop on the tour.
We invite you to be a part of the fun. Scroll down below to sign up!

Make Your Own ATLP Hi-Cube
The current touring car is an older run Walthers Gunderson single door boxcar purchased on Facebook Marketplace. According to Tony Cook’s Model Train Resource, this car was produced in 2001. There are some still around either undecorated or in several road names, so if you're motivated enough, you can strip and repaint. See below for more on future “official” ATLP cars.
The decals for ATLP 2022 were designed and produced by Highball Graphics. Available in N, HO and O scales, they can be ordered directly from them on their website. Click here to order.
Due to the roundness of the decals and the heights of the ribs on the side of the car, it was decided to utilize placards for the ATLP logos. The following paints were used:
Body - STAR 1-STR-05 DRGW Black - Sold here
Roof - Model Master Aluminum enamel
Ends - Model Master Flat White
Finish - Testors Glosscote
The decal kit from Highball Graphics includes FRA224 conspicuity stripes, but if you’re looking for something more reflective, I highly recommend Smokebox Graphics, as the touring car had them added back at ATLP headquarters.
…or make it your own. Paul Cassar used a 50’ standard height boxcar (former Railbox) to create his own take on ATLP 2024. Combine the ATLP decal sheet with any data sheet from Highball Graphics and create what you want - just be sure to share it with us!
Future Versions of ATLP Hi-Cubes
Future versions of “official” ATLP cars will use the undecorated ScaleTrains ExactRail Evolution Gunderson 6269. These cars are currently on pre-order until May 27, 2024 and their estimated arrival is March 31, 2025.
